This research work, which grew out of an invitation to speak at SAUL (School of Architecture, University of Limerick) in January 2009, examined the context for thinking about taking away, or 'Unbuilding' some of the development which has taken place inappropriately in Ireland in recent years. The presentation dealt with definitions, scale, methodologies of analysis, and the economic context for the proposal.

Since January 2009, 'Unbuilding' has been widely presented and discussed, including a presentation to the "On Hold" workshop of Now What?, the UCD School of Architecture Summer 2009 initiative, a walking tour under the same name at Open House Dublin October 2009, and as part of a presentation to the RIAI titled "NAMA; The Opportunities of Projective Mapping" in October 2009.
